Australian Gothic Local… artist Alice Stokes

Returned Local Artist on Exhibit
Alice Stokes returned to Parkes in late 2017 after a number of years honing her creative skills and process in Berlin and is sharing some of her work with Parkes Library for an exhibition during July.
Due to Alice’s love of film noir and the colour black she primarily draws with graphite on black paper or charcoal, creating stark, evocative images that are only revealed as the light catches the graphite.
Upon returning to Parkes, inspirational focus eluded Alice…
So here returned to my childhood home.
My mind doth roam,
through ideas to comb.
What to draw in monochrome? – Alice Stokes
…Until the screeching of an Australian raven demanded attention of both the eyes and ears. Recently the subject matter has extended into other backyard wildlife in the nocturnal Australian landscape.
Alice’s “Australian Gothic Local” exhibition will be on exhibit at Parkes Library from 3rd to 28th July 2018.
This exhibit continues Parkes Library’s purpose of providing a venue for local artists to exhibit their work, as well as bringing a variety of art forms to the community for their viewing.
“Alice’s latest art series, a graphite exploration of neo Australian gothic art and contemporary art noir style, is inspiring and an art style that has not been on exhibit before in the Library” said Shellie Buckle, Manager Cultural, Education & Library Services.
