The Calleen Art Award was established as an acquisitive art prize in 1977 by local arts patron Mrs Patricia Fagan, OAM, and each year the Gallery acquires the winning work for the Calleen Collection. The Calleen Art Award is a significant art prize for painting in regional New South Wales and a favourite exhibition event within the Cowra community. The winning painting for the 2017 Calleen Art Award was Audery (pictured) by Melbourne-based artist Zai Kuang.
Cowra’s major art award, the 2018 Calleen opens at Cowra Regional Art Gallery on Saturday, May 5 at 6pm for 6.30pm.
Councillor Ray Walsh will officially welcome guests on behalf of the Mayor followed by the official opening and announcement of the winner by this year’s Award Judge Michael Hedger, Director, Manly Art Gallery and Museum.
This year’s exhibition of 46 finalists features a diverse collection of artworks from over 200 entries selected by a panel of professional art curators.
The opening will be enhanced by the talents of young musicians from Sydney Conservatorium of Music who will perform as visitors view the exhibition.
