Arts OutWest Aboriginal Arts Development Officer Aleshia Lonsdale travelled to Coffs Harbour for over the Australia Day weekend for the 2015 Saltwater Freshwater Festival with artworks from central west Aboriginal artists in tow.
Freshwater Saltwater is a weekend long celebration of Indigenous culture and provides an inclusive, positive, family-friendly celebration, creating a modern vision for the country.
Headline acts included Archie Roach, Emma Donovan and Radical Son. There were dance, language and art workshops and activities for children, elders and everyone in between.
It was a fantastic opportunity to present central west artists to a new audience and showcase what we have to offer. – Aleshia Lonsdale, Arts OutWest Aboriginal Arts Development Officer
Representing the freshwater mobs, featured artists included Bev Coe, Nyree Reynolds, Ashton Walden and the Orange Fibre Artists Group whose artworks were unique in the markets which made for great diversity and the positive feedback from visitors was amazing.
Sales were consistent on the day with a steady flow of visitors through the stall but more importantly it gave us the opportunity to give our artists exposure to a completely new market in northern New South Wales, develop relationships with a new audience and to foster new and exciting opportunities for artists.
